The North Frisian company Möbel und Küchen Jessen specializes in the complete furnishing of vacation homes and apartments. Managing Director Arne Brodersen and furnishing consultant Tanja Theemann are regular guests at the annual trade fair for vacation rentals, DOMIZIL Husum. From November 8 - 10, 2024, they will once again be presenting visitors with a fully furnished model holiday apartment. We wanted to find out more:

What is special about furnishing vacation properties compared to other furnishing orders?

Brodersen: "Holiday home owners have to buy differently for their property than for their own home. The armchair with a motor, the couch with folding armrests - these things are subjected to particular stress tests when rented out and offer predetermined breaking points from the outset. Even the simplest slatted frames will soon lead to the landlord receiving a complaint. The quality and durability of the furniture are therefore particularly important.

Theemann: The furnishings should please the landlord, be visually appealing and inviting for guests - and still be easy to clean. To achieve this, we use specially treated fabrics in the living and dining areas, which are also recommended for pets. Box-spring beds are very popular in the sleeping area. Here, we advise landlords to avoid upholstered headboards for hygienic reasons and instead suggest color-coordinated wall panels that are easier to clean.

Where can you provide particularly good support for vacation rental companies?

Brodersen: For large vacation complexes, we start planning while the earthworks on the property are still underway. This allows us to provide installation plans at an early stage, give feedback on necessary power connections for the kitchen, present color concepts and order furniture in good time.

Theemann: Each customer is advised individually, even if their apartment is part of a vacation complex with identical accommodation. I have lists of all the accessories needed in vacation apartments. Customers can request a complete set of equipment for two, four or six people, from a doormat to a lemon squeezer.

From November 8-10, you will once again be at the trade fair for vacation rentals, DOMIZIL Husum?

Theemann: Yes, we are once again furnishing a vacation apartment at DOMIZIL. However, we have not yet decided which color concept and which accents we will show. We also have an exhibition stand. This will give us a good opportunity to communicate what other services we offer for vacation apartments.

Brodersen:  The DOMIZIL is very important to us, we need the encounters that take place here and have already made many contacts. Sometimes you have to think long-term. But if the customer decides quickly, he can commission us at the trade fair and his vacation home is furnished in time for the start of the season.
